Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of BlackFlare, a macOS menu bar application. By downloading, installing, or using it, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

Licence

BlackFlare is a paid application. When you obtain it — by buying a direct licence through Gumroad, or through a Setapp subscription — you get a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use it on the Macs you own or control, for as long as your purchase or subscription entitles you to.

You may not:

• resell, rent, sublicense, or redistribute the app or a licence key;
• reverse-engineer, decompile, or circumvent its licensing except where that restriction is prohibited by law;
• remove or alter any proprietary notices.

BlackFlare and its name, icon, and design remain the property of their author. This licence grants use, not ownership.

Acceptable use

Use BlackFlare lawfully and on systems you are authorised to use. Do not use it to violate anyone's rights, to breach the terms of the developer tools it works alongside (Claude Code, Codex, and the services they reach), or in a way that damages or disrupts others.

Your files and credentials

BlackFlare works on files already on your Mac. In normal use it edits your Claude and Codex configuration files (~/.claude/settings.json, ~/.codex/config.toml) when you change a default from the menu. It does this surgically and keeps a one-time backup (settings.json.bak, config.toml.bak) — see the privacy policy for exactly how. You are responsible for your own configuration and for keeping your own backups of anything you cannot afford to lose.

You are responsible for your own accounts, API tokens, and credentials — your Anthropic and OpenAI logins, any Telegram bot token or Slack webhook you add, and your usage of those services under their own terms and billing. BlackFlare reads and stores these only on your machine to do what you ask; it never issues them to you and is not responsible for how those third-party services behave, price, or bill.

No warranty

BlackFlare is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. You use it at your own risk. It is a convenience utility for developer tools, not a guaranteed or safety-critical service, and it does not promise that a session will never be interrupted or that a notification will always arrive.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the author of BlackFlare is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, work, profits, or time, arising from your use of or inability to use the app. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the app in the twelve months before the claim.

Billing, refunds, and cancellation

Payment for BlackFlare is handled by the store you obtained it from, not by us:

• Gumroad processes direct purchases; refunds and receipts are subject to Gumroad's terms and refund policy.
• Setapp bills your subscription; access, cancellation, and refunds are governed by your Setapp subscription and its terms.

We do not store your payment details and cannot see your card or bank information. Direct any billing question to the store that charged you.

Changes to the app and these terms

BlackFlare may change over time — features can be added, changed, or removed. These terms may change too; when they do, the date at the top moves, and continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the author's place of residence [jurisdiction to be finalised], without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Nothing here removes any consumer right you have that cannot be waived under the law that applies to you.
